Tradesman insurance FAQs
Whether you’re new to buying business insurance or you’ve been trading for a while, here are the answers to some commonly asked questions about tradesperson insurance. You can also check out our business insurance FAQs.
Liability insurance is one of the most common forms of protection tradespeople look for when setting up an insurance policy – it’s built to cover your business against claims and lawsuits which hold you responsible (liable) for things like injuries and damage.
Common forms of liability insurance are public liability, product liability and employers’ liability. You can usually add all of these into an insurance policy with Simply Business.
When you get a quote with us, you can compare prices from a range of trusted insurers. Comparing prices from several insurers can help you to get our best deal for your business.
Whether it’s cover for your tools, your employees, or legal expenses, you choose what goes into your policy, so you only pay for what you need.
The price for tradespeople insurance starts at £4.74 a month but the cost of your policy will depend on the types of cover you include, as well as things like the risks associated with your trade, the equipment you need covered, and your location.
Whatever stage your business is at, and whatever type of trade you specialise in, it’s essential that you have the right insurance. You’re likely to face a range of risks on a daily basis, from damage or theft of your tools to accidents that affect your employees or customers. Without insurance, these risks could end up costing you a significant amount of money if the worst was to happen.
Most tradespeople start with public liability insurance (which covers injury or damage caused by your business) and add extra covers for things like their tools and employees. If you’re not sure what type of cover you need, our team can work with you to make sure you have the right protection.
Running a trades business can be stressful, so having the right insurance gives you peace of mind that your business can keep going when something goes wrong.
When you get a quote with us, you can add a second trade to your policy. For example, if you’re a bricklayer who also offers plastering work. This helps make sure you have the right level of cover for your business, and eases the process if you need to make a claim.
You can choose the payment type that suits your business and cash flow best. Some customers prefer to pay in one go, while others prefer to pay a regular monthly amount, like you do with lots of other bills. Simply Business offer three ways to pay for your policy:
- one-off credit or debit card payment
- BACS payment
- Direct Debit
If you choose to pay by Direct Debit, our credit provider, Premium Credit, pays Simply Business the full amount for your policy up front. You then repay Premium Credit in 10 monthly instalments.
